How To Setup The MIVA USPS Plugin – 6. April, 2009

We just recently had a client who is adding United States Postal Service (USPS) to their shipping options in their Miva store.  She went and registered for an account at USPS and gave us the information we needed to plug in to the Miva Module, we tested it, and NO Love.  Come to find out, she had registered at the wrong place. In order to use USPS with Miva or any online store, you must first go and register for the USPS web tools which you can find here: https://secure.shippingapis.com/registration/

Once this is complete, USPS will send you an email which DOES require action on your part to verify.  They will then let you utilize their test server to calculate shipping costs, etc.

You will then need to log in to MIVA, click shipping settings, check the box next to USPS Online Rate Calculation (Domestic & International) click update, then select the tab at the top that says USPS.  You will then see this screen where you need to enter the account info that USPS provided you with.  The URL to USPS Web Tools Server should already be populated for you.

Click submit and go test in your Miva store. That should do it.

Refreshing Customer Service : Miva Merchant Experience – 14. May, 2008

We were in the process of upgrading one of our e-commerce clients to the new version of Miva : version 5.5 when we ran out of server disk space on the account: this obviously brought the streaming Miva 5.5 upgrade to a screeching halt.  We had to call MIVA and place a trouble ticket for them to reset and re-stream the live update: within 20 minutes of our call our project was already being worked on by Miva technicians and within one hour, our dilemma was solved.

Here’s the most impressive part:  Miva called our office to confirm that they had implemented the changes and that everything was performing as it should.  That NEVER happens! I was amazed enough to post this blog about the experience.  Miva is taking strides to improve all facets of their customer service, and frankly, they taught me a valuable lesson: sometimes an email isn’t enough: that personal touch is what truly sparks the WOW factor.

Miva Merchant 5.5 : Now Offers SEO Features & More! – 8. May, 2008

We updated a clients online e-commerce store this morning from Miva 5 to Miva 5.5 and it was a snap.  Once we logged into the admin panel, we were prompted that there was a new update available, and it was like Christmas.  Important note: you do have the option of not updating…

While we haven’t fully kicked all of the new version’s tires yet, some really cool stuff we immediately noticed was a fresh new interface, much easier to use, much cleaner, etc.  The thing we are quite excited about is the Dreamweaver export: you can now edit store pages directly in dreamweaver, and the SEO features.  You now have complete control over each products meta tags, descriptions, etc.  as well as a sitemap creation tool and much more. There is a button in there to create short url’s for SEO, but to be honest, we need to read a bit more about that before we activate it.

We will of course keep you updated as we find new features / and / or bugs.
