Is Your Web Site Bloated? – 28. August, 2010

Does your web site take forever to load?  If so, you need to know this: Google is now counting page load time as a factor in their page rank algorithm, so, it’s time to take a look at some of your graphics, bulky code, excessive java script, flock of seagulls music playing the background, etc. and reduce.

“Speeding up websites is important — not just to site owners, but to all Internet users. Faster sites create happy users and we’ve seen in our internal studies that when a site responds slowly, visitors spend less time there. But faster sites don’t just improve user experience; recent data shows that improving site speed also reduces operating costs. Like us, our users place a lot of value in speed — that’s why we’ve decided to take site speed into account in our search rankings. ” Google Webmaster Blog.

When you start thinking like Google and more importantly your web site users and their VERY LOW patience threshold, your web site starts to speak directly to them.  Today’s web sites are clean, simple and minimalist and have no bad 80′s music playing in the background.

Proven SEO Secrets Revealed. – 27. August, 2010

With so many so called SEO Gurus out there in the marketplace revealing all of the secrets about SEO, I thought I should jump in as an SEO expert and lay the straight SEO truth out there. I’m getting a bit sick of all of the noise and nonsense that is floating around regarding SEO, so I thought I’d reveal my best kept SEO secrets in hopes that you don’t get suckered into listening to a so called SEO Guru.

Secret #1. It Takes Time. You don’t become number one in the organic search engine rankings overnight.

Secret #2. It Takes Skill. Just because you took a class at the local tech school about SEO doesn’t qualify you to be an SEO Guru.

Secret #3: Magical Formulas. There is no super secret formula created in a laboratory by zany gurus that will help your web site rise to the top.

Secret #4: It Takes Instinct. A true SEO expert can generate useful informative copy that is optimized for search engines without anyone else knowing that it was optimized for search engines.

Secret #5: It Takes Hard Work.  Like all good things, SEO takes time.  SEO is an ongoing process.  Any true SEO person is constantly analyzing analytical data and making educated decisions on what direction and what action to take on the web site to help the overall efforts.

Looking for a true professional SEO firm? Look no further.  With over 12 years experience in SEO and helping companies grow their online presence, On Target Web Solutions has what it takes to grow your online presence.  Call me: 407-830-4550 in Orlando or Nationwide: 866-998-6886.

SEO’d To Death. – 13. August, 2010

I found a garbage press release in the Google blog results pages today from a so called SEO company in Orlando who is of course promising top ten results and who is promising an increase in your sales and of course, wait for it ….. promises RESULTS tomorrow. Out of morbid curiosity I had to click the press release through to their web site where I almost spit my coffee out all over my IMac.  This web site was the most discombobulated, convoluted, out of balance, over seo’d web site I have ever seen (at least ever seen today.)

SEO companies can have tunnel vision.  They are more concerned with keyword density, an over abundance of copy, an overabundance of text links, alt tags up the ying yang, etc.,etc.  I think many of them miss a huge variable when it comes to their online presentation: people still have to visit the web site and convert to a sale. When a web site is built solely to get Google’s attention, you’ve completely missed the boat. You’ve missed the fundamental reason that we all want a web site presence: To be successful, to grow our business / client base, to sell retail products, etc.  When the entire focus of your web site is on SEO and not on People and their wants / needs, it’s a ship waiting to sink.

With everything, there is a balance.  Your web site is no different.  Your web site should combine needs to be aesthetically pleasing, it needs to be compelling, it of course needs to be built properly for Google to crawl, it of course DOES need to be optimized with the proper keywords, etc., but most importantly, it should be USEFUL. It should be a sales tool, it should drive people through your sales funnel and grow your business. What good is to be found in a search engine if when people land on your web site they can’t wait to leave it?

SEO Smoke & Mirrors. – 9. August, 2010

Beware of the false guarantees. Beware of false promises. Beware of the company that outsources all of their SEO work to freelancers charging 11.00 bucks an hour.  When it comes to your business and your online presence, you need to know who is working on your web site. You need to know that the company entrusted with helping you grow your online presence knows just what the heck that they are doing.

Here are a few key questions to ask your web design / seo marketing firm….

1.) Do you outsource SEO? In my humble opinion, I want to know that a true professional is working on my web site.
2.) Can you find your SEO company in Google?
3.) Does your SEO company practice what they preach?
4.) Does your SEO company help you devise a solid Internet marketing plan for success?
5.) Does your SEO company have a proven track record with other clients?

Many companies claim to know everything in the world about SEO but cannot back it up. You deserve the best, you deserve not to be sold a bag of goods. You deserve a personalized approach to your business and your online presence. You deserve On Target Web Solutions.

If it’s time for a change, call me. In Orlando, 407-830-4550, Nationwide, 866-998-6886.

What Would Google Do? Link Building & SEO. – 4. August, 2010

Google Web Master Tools

So many of my clients and prospects get so much dis-information sent to them that they can get confused and mislead on the true path to online SEO success.  My recommendation, ask yourself (or others) What Would Google Do? I’ve talking a great deal about link building in previous blog posts and thought that this link could really help sum everything up: Google WebMaster Blog & Link Building. Here’s a quick excerpt:

“If your site is rather new and still unknown, a good way marketing technique is to get involved in the community around your topic. Interact and contribute on forums and blogs. Just keep in mind to contribute in a positive way, rather than spamming or soliciting for your site. Just building a reputation can drive people to your site. And they will keep on visiting it and linking to it. If you offer long-lasting, unique and compelling content — something that lets your expertise shine — people will want to recommend it to others. Great content can serve this purpose as much as providing useful tools.”

A great way to start getting Google’s attention in the very infancy of your website is to contribute and to start leaving a positive NON SPAMMY, NON Sales related trail back to your web site.

Can Videos Help With SEO? – 30. July, 2010

I have a client in Lake Mary who was sold a bag of goods from a self titled SEO Guru. The Guru convinced him that he needed to focus solely on producing video after video after video.  This was going to transform his business.  So, the client of course goes out and purchases a handy dandy video camera and goes to town shooting painful video of pretty much anything he could think of.  No direction, no theme, no real contribution to society or the Internet.

The client took all of his masterpieces, uploaded them to YouTube and sat back in his lazy boy just waiting for instant overnight success. It never came. It never will.  Here’s why…..

What the SEO Video guru never told my client is this.  People only want to watch interesting content that will either make them laugh or learn.  They don’t really want to watch you inserting a testosterone pellet into a clients butt fat with a scalpel. Secondly, the reason videos CAN work is because Google actually indexes YouTube videos in its search engine results pages (SERPS). If you produce a relevant and informative (or hilarious) video and properly tag it with keywords, take the time to compose the transcript, you will have a much higher probability of getting that video indexed in Google under the search terms you are after.  Lastly, cranking out one video will not dramatically transform your life or business.  Like all things, being a contributor and a constant contributor will help set you or your business apart from the competition.

Before you listen to another Guru’s pitch, call me. I’m here to help you sort the nonsense from the facts: in Orlando: call 407-830-4550, Nationwide: 866-998-6886.

True Link Building. – 28. July, 2010

So called SEO Gurus love to throw out tons of industry buzz words in hopes of confusing their prospects into thinking that all things SEO is rocket science.  While SEO is a learned skill, there are some very simple philosophies that need to be embraced prior to kicking of any Organic SEO campaign.  I’ll spend some time in subsequent blogs discussing some more basic SEO foundations, but in this blog, I thought I’d touch a bit on link building.

Link building is the process of getting inbound links pointing to your web site.  The more inbound links that point to your web site, the more Google and other search engines may think that your web site is relevant.  It’s really quite simple, BUT, has turned into a free for all for fly by night SEO types who read a few tweets on Twitter about growing their web site traffic from the latest MLM Internet marketing scammer.  TRUE link building is about building relationships, it’s about building a truly relevant web of important, fresh information.  So, for example, your distributor in Seattle has a great web site and is constantly writing relevant white papers and blog articles about their products and services.  You can contribute to his conversations online and so you chime in about xyz product and offer your expertise.  He, then follows your link back and contributes to your web site.  This is what the Internet was intended for, communication and the exchange of ideas.  Now, the side effect is that Google loves the site in Seattle and crawls your comments / inputs back to your web site.  Your web site is similar in nature, therefore, it’s more relevant in Google’s eyes.  Rinse and repeat.

Be a contributor on other like minded industry related web sites and grow your credibility as an expert in your field. That’s what TRUE link building and TRUE SEO is all about.  It’s more than getting your web site found in the organic search engine rankings, it’s about contributing and being a relevant resource.

My next blog will talk about the latest craze, videos and SEO.  Stay tuned for some truth.

Blogging A Lot? Update Your XML Sitemap. – 27. July, 2010

An xml sitemap is a great tool for search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo to inform them that you’ve added new content. Basically, the xml sitemap is a compilation of all of your web site links, etc. in one easy to navigate file that search engines can crawl and pick up the latest pages you’ve created with ease.

As you add more and more content to your web site, it’s mission critical to make certain that your xml sitemap is updated and current.  If you are using a blog platform such as WordPress for your web site, there are a few plugins that you can activate that will automatically keep your xml sitemap current (you can find them at WordPress.org.  Otherwise, stroll on over to http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ and rerun your sitemap.  You’ll need to upload to your web site and if you have not already, create a Google Webmaster account and provide Google with a link to your xml sitemap, example: http://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. The bottom line is this: your xml sitemap can make Google’s, Bing’s and Yahoo’s job easier by letting it know what pages you want them to crawl and index.

Want to get your web site found overnight in the search engines? Want instant overnight success with your web site and your company? Are you ready to make millions by clicking a few buttons and sitting on your duff?

Beware of the overnight instant success top ten ranking guaranteed for only 19.95 SEO companies. Your company needs a steady and planned approach to SEO, to rank, continue to rank and then seek new ranking opportunities as keyword popularity changes. Need help devising a solid SEO plan for your company? Call me: in Orlando: 407-830-4550 or nationwide: 866-998-6886.
