Much debate has arisen in the seo community: all centered around a particular meta tag: For those of you who don’t know, a meta tag is visible to the search engine crawler or bot and is utilized to inform the search engine what the page is about. Many crawler based search engines have stopped paying attention the meta keyword entry due to the misuse of the tag: Misuse would be comprised of keyword stuffing or inserting keywords that have NO relevancy to the body or main subject material of the page itself.

Here is my philosophy: I still use the meta keyword tag, each site we optimize and design includes a FEW keywords that truly do represent the content on the page. The Inktomi crawler still recognizes the meta keyword, but it’s search algorithm does not put as much weight on it as it used to. So why use it? Why not… All things in moderation can enhance a site, it’s when you are stuffing 83 keywords totally unrelated to your site’s content that search engines start eye balling.
