Starving Google Bot : One Page Wonders.
In order to grow, we must all feed ourselves, in order to thrive, we must nurture ourselves. A web site is the same way. If you are asking why you can’t find your web site in Google, perhaps you need to take a look at your web site’s structure: Many designers love to code in Flash. Flash is hip, happening, groovy, fresh, whatever you want to call it, but it can also be starving the great google bot of food and nutrients.
When a site is built entirely in flash, it is typically contained within one file, in other words, if you click through an ALL flash site, the URL will not change up top in the browser. To Google, there is NOTHING to grab, no meat, no potatoes, no turnips, etc. All it sees is Flash and more flash. Google is seeking copy, content, text links, site-maps, the Good stuff. If it can’t find content, it’s gone and subsequently, so are your rankings and / or chances of getting your web site indexed WELL in Google, MSN, or Yahoo.
If you want your web site to be successful and / or found in the search engines, you need to ask your web designer some important questions such as:
1.) What language will the site be written in
2.) Will the navigation be all graphical or will you be using CSS and text links.
3.) How will the pages be linked together?
4.) Will each page be meta tagged individually?
5.) How do you research what keywords, etc. to use?
We have nothing against flash, we use it ourselves, but like everything, everything in moderation. Your web site needs to be the balance of form and function to succeed and thrive online.
