I met with a new prospect last week, we were discussing SEO and how my company can help them improve their organic search engine presence.  We had a great chat and I knew that the gentleman knew his stuff when it came to the Internet.  After we had discussed link building and some on site optimization, the conversation shifted to Google and it’s propensity to change their algorithm frequently. The gentleman asked me if we use software to hack Google and learn their new formulas and then implement those changes to the web site…… WHAT?

Wow, just wow.  He told me that an SEO company told him that they use a super secret backdoor sniffer tool that gets into Google’s servers and grabs the latest algorithm changes and that’s how they can help you get to the top of the search engines.  I’ve been doing this a long time and maybe my head is just buried in the sand and such an ILLEGAL tool does exist, BUT, I’m floored that anyone would try to sell any prospect a bag of goods such as this. Even if this did exist, is that even remotely ethical to consider?

If you have an SEO company start pitching you on proprietary software and super secret code breakers, RUN THE OTHER WAY. If you have an SEO company start telling you that your all flash site will rank just fine, not to worry, they’ve hidden words in the flash itself, RUN THE OTHER WAY. If an SEO company promised you 52,332 inbound links over night, RUN THE OTHER WAY.  Like everything else, if it sounds to good to be true, IT IS.
