Why do most web sites fail? Why do most social media campaigns flounder? Because they fail to connect with human beings. They fail to connect or tell a story, they fail to share the passion that the business owner once / or still has.

I’ve been reading a great book entitled Brains On Fire: Igniting Powerful, Sustainable, Word of Mouth Movements. The premise of the book is this: A slick web design, a brilliant ad campaign, an exceptional social media campaign will NOT turn people into sneezers or movement followers.  A catchy slogan only lasts for so long, a cute gimmick will only get you so far, a contest on Facebook can only be run so many times…. Having a conversation and engaging on a human level with other human beings is where ALL great relationships begin.

Your web site, Internet marketing plan and social media initiatives NEED to be all about passion, not about solely reaching out to influencers or sneezers.  Passion is what truly spreads like wild fire, not hooking into some ego maniac blogger who wields power because of his subscription base.  While that can be part of a tactic, it is not likely to get folks to buy into your movement if there is NO Passion behind the message.  It’s time to ditch the perfect slogan quest and start telling your story with a human face on it and with passion.  That can translate to a great web design,  a great marketing campaign and even a great print ad.  Talk to people. Share your passion. Start a relationship.  Start a movement.
